WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 7, 2023) — Education Design Lab (the Lab), a national nonprofit helping colleges and employers design equity-based education solutions toward the future of work, has been named a finalist in two categories of the EdTech Awards 2023.
The US-based awards program is the world’s largest recognition program for education technology, recognizing the biggest names in edtech – and those who soon will be. EdTech Digest’s annual program shines a spotlight on cool tools, inspiring leaders, and innovative trendsetters across the K-12, higher education, and skills and workforce sectors.
- Education Design Lab was named a finalist in the “EdTech Group Setting a Trend” category in the Trendsetter Awards.
- The Lab’s XCredit initiative was a finalist in the “Skills (a.k.a. 21st-Century Skills) Solution” category in the Cool Tool Awards. XCredit (or “Experience Credit”) allows learner-earners to turn their intangible or invisible skills, gained informally through work and life experience, into validated, tangible credentials that are visible to employers.
“We’re honored to have XCredit included among the finalists for the EdTech Digest’s Cool Tool Award,” said Dr. Tara Laughlin, the XCredit project lead and Senior Education Designer at the Lab. “Our team of designers has worked tirelessly to create authentic opportunities for the validation of skills gained through lived experience. This is a great recognition of their hard work and the promise of the XCredit solution for economic mobility.”
This year’s finalists and winners were narrowed from the larger field and judged based on various criteria, including: pedagogical workability, efficacy and results, support, clarity, value and potential.
