Dr. Naomi Boyer, the Lab’s Senior Vice President of Digital Transformation, joined a panel of experts for The Chronicle of Higher Education’s virtual forum, “The Transcript of the Future,” on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023.
Watch a recording of the forum.
Here’s how the Chronicle described the discussion:
Many university officials and employers agree: The traditional transcript leaves much to be desired. The current version with its list of abbreviated course titles, credit hours, and grades, isn’t serving students well in an era with a greater emphasis on competencies and soft skills.
To offer a holistic view of a student’s work, colleges have experimented with digital portfolios that provide insights that go beyond grades to include a student’s skills, extracurricular activities, and more. The “new transcript” can also give students greater access to, and control over, their records.
Where do these experiments stand now and where are they headed?
